If your furniture is looking a bit tired, don't think you have to purchase new. Cover up instead, with slipcovers. Slipcovers have come a long way since our Grandmother's used them. Most discount stores carry them and you can also find them online. Many different styles and fabrics are available in sizes to fit your sofa, loveseat, chair and ottoman. Consider warm colors and fuzzy textures when choosing your fabrics. This is the season that's all about nesting and what better fabric to snuggle against, then chenille, velvet and suede.

Update the look of your home with inexpensive purchases. Change out the towels in your powder room. Try a rich cranberry red, pine forest green, golden squash or warm chestnut brown. Add a border of decorative fringe. In no time at all you will have created a very expensive look. If you're feeling a little daring, try an animal print. A leopard terry towel with black fringe would be stunning.

Want to spruce up those old pots that your plants have been living in. Don't think that you have to buy new pots, disguise them. Purchase a few yards of fabric and make a pot cozy. Place your plant in the middle of the fabric and pull up around the pot, secure with a rubber band and finish off with wire ribbon or raffia. Change out the fabric to celebrate the holiday or the change of season. Insert potted mums in your pot cozy and place them around your room for a little burst of autumn color.

Need a fast centerpiece for your Thanksgiving table? Visit your local craft store. There is an abundance of seasonal and holiday decorating items. Purchase a pre-made wreath, grapevine, twig, floral, fruit or dried will all work. Purchase 3 pillar candles of varying heights and a spray of ivy garland. I like to use left-over fabric in my displays and I often find my pieces in the linen closet. Old window sheers and panels work great. Many great deals can be found at discount stores. Gather the fabric in the center of your tabletop, place an inverted bowl in the center and cover with the fabric, you want to create height in this arrangement. Place the wreath on top of the bowl and place the candles inside. Drape the ivy along the length of your table. Fresh fruit, twigs, berries and nuts would look stunning nestled among the ivy. You can embellish as much as you like, use your creativity.

The holidays are all about the love of family and friends. Show you care, by creating a gratitude journal. What better time to share all that you are thankful for. Ask each guest to share their thoughts. I guarantee you will make a memorable occasion for yourself as well as your guests and quite possibly create a new Thanksgiving ritual.

With fond thoughts for a blessed Thanksgiving, I wish you well.
